A check valve is a valve that automatically opens and closes the disc based on the flow of the medium itself so that the medium does not flow back.
Other names of this valve are one-way valve, reverse flow valve and back pressure valve. There are various check valves manufacturers in india. They supply the best-quality valves suitable to your needs.
Based on their design and working mechanism, they are classified into five categories.
Five types of check valves
1. Swing Check Valve
In this type of check valve, the disc rotates around the shaft of the valve seat passage. Since the passage in the valve is streamlined, the flow resistance is lesser here.
This is the reason, the swing check valve is suitable for low flow rates and where the change in the flow is infrequent.
The valve is not very suitable for pulsating flow. Also, the sealing performance is not good.
We can broadly divide swing check valves into three types based on the valve diameter, single-leaf type, double-leaf type, and multi-half type.
2. Lift Check Valve
In this type of check valve, the disc slides along the vertical centre line of the body of the valve. These valves can be installed on a horizontal pipeline only.
For the disc of a high-pressure small-diameter check valve, a round ball can be used. The valve body shape is like the stop valve so that fluid resistance coefficient is large. There are guided sleeves in the upper and lower part of the valve.
When the medium flows downstream, the disc gets opened by the thrust of the medium. After the medium stops flowing, the disc falls and prevents the backward flow.
3. Butterfly Type Check Valve
Another commonly used check valve is a butterfly type check valve. In this, the disc rotates around a pin shaft in the valve seat. The structure of this valve is simple and can only be installed on a horizontal pipeline with poor sealing performance.
4. Muffler Check Valve
This type of valve automatically opens and closes the valve clack based on the flow of the medium itself. Thus, it prevents the medium from flowing back. This valve is known as a check valve, one-way valve, silencing check valve, reverse flow valve, and back pressure valve as well.
5. Rubber Flap Check Valve
This valve has three main parts: valve body, valve cover, and rubber flap. The rubber flap is made of a steel plate, steel rod and reinforced nylon cloth that acts as the substrate.
The outer layer is covered with rubber. This valve has a few good characteristics, such as small head loss, prevention of accumulation of debris, and ease to maintenance.
This valve is suitable for horizontal installation of water supply and drainage system. It can be installed at the outlet of the water pump to prevent backflow.
It can also be installed on the bypass pipe of the water inlet and outlet pipes of the reservoir. Thus, you can prevent the pool water from flowing back into the water supply system. Instrumentation valve manufacturers make all types of check valves.
