Valves are very important in industrial applications.  They can manage the pressure within the system. As far as different types of valves are concerned, there are varieties to reduce and control the pressure.

You can find relief valves manufacturers in india that offer valves suitable to your needs.

Since there are so many different methods of controlling system pressure, it is important to know about them in detail so you can pick the most applicable type of valve for your system.

What is a pressure relief valve?

A pressure relief valve is a highly useful and necessary mechanism found in a wide range of applications. The basic purpose of these valves is to protect the integrity of a system when the pressure reaches an alarming level.

These valves typically work by opening up so that they can allow the pressure to be released outside of the system.

Once the correct pressure level is reached that is suitable to continue the regular function, the pressure relief valve closes over.

Why do you need relief valves? It is because overpressure could have dangerous consequences if not managed effectively.

Types of pressure relief valves

Broadly speaking, there are three types of pressure relief valves. Remember, each type of valve is for specific intended applications.

Relief Valve

A Relief Valve is a spring-loaded pressure relief device. It has the capacity of gradual opening and closing. The valves are actuated by the upstream pressure. Therefore, they are best suitable for incompressible fluids.

Two types of relief valves are there: adjustable and electronic.

In an Adjustable relief valve, outlet port is responsible for pressure setting changes.

Electronic relief valves have zero leakage because they use electric controls to observe and regulate system pressure.

When you need close discharge systems, these types of relief valves are useful.

Safety Valve

Safety valves are useful for compressible fluids, such as vapors and gas.  The main characteristic of these valves is their quick opening and closing action.  Safety valves are popularly used in steam plants for boiler overpressure protection.

They are classified into three distinct categories based on the amount of lift during their pop-up function.

In low-lift safety valves, the capacity is limited. The valve can lift 1/24th of the bore diameter.

High-lift safety valves can lift 1/12th of the bore diameter.

Full-lift safety valves can lift at least 1/4th of the bore diameter. They are suitable for steam services the most.

Safety Relief Valves

Safety relief valves can be used for liquid or gas pressure relief depending on the application. The reason is that safety relief valves are suitable for rapid and gradual opening.

A pressure relief valve is a type of safety-related component. It is used in pipelines or with vessels in pneumatics.

As mentioned before, relief valves are used to control the amount of compressed air pressure in the system.

Thus, pressure doesn’t build up above a specific level and causes damage to machinery or people.

Safety relief valves are therefore used to prevent any accident where air pressure exceeds the maximum allowed levels of pressure for that process.
